Every year, the holder of a life income fund (LIF) can transfer a certain amount to a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) or a registered retirement income fund (RRIF). The Regulation providing temporary relief measures for the funding of solvency deficiencies was published in the Gazette officielle du Québec of 30 May 2012 .

The Newsletter Express of 23 May 2012  contains information for pension plan administrators on their responsibilities with regard to using and choosing margins for adverse deviations for the actuarial valuation of plans.

The notice provides information on your family situation and the amounts that will be paid for the period from July 2012 to June 2013. If you have not received your notice by 16 June 2012, it may be due to a recent change in your family situation or address. Consult the My Account personalized online service to make any necessary changes.

Actuaries can consult the Régie's instructions for choosing actuarial assumptions and methods to be used in the actuarial valuations, including the maximum interest rate assumption.

The Régie des rentes du Québec reports on its accomplishments in the Rapport annuel de gestion 2011 (Annual management report for 2011; French only) and presents its goals in its Plan d'action 2012 (Action plan for 2012; French only). The two documents were tabled in the National Assembly on 3 May 2012.

The Plan stratégique 2012-2016 (2012-2016 Strategic plan; French only), which was introduced today in the National Assembly, presents the Régie's challenges and priorities over the next few years. The Newsletter Express of 29 February 2012 concerns the extension of relief measures until 31 December 2013 for the municipal and universities' pension plans, the early childhood centres and accredited daycares' plan and the emergency medical technicians' plan.

Certain relief measures are being extended until 31 December 2013 by regulations amending:

• the Regulation respecting the funding of pension plans of the municipal and university sectors (for municipal and universities' pension plans);
• the Regulation respecting the exemption of certain pension plans from the application of provisions of the Supplemental Pension Plans Act (for the early childhood centres (CPEs) and accredited daycares' plan, and the emergency medical technicians' plan).

The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec published its results and the Régie des rentes du Québec announced the results for the QPP.

Deductions for income tax purposes can be made directly from your pension in order to reduce the amount of income tax you will have to pay when you file your income tax return. Use our Request for Income Tax Deductions online service, and you can decide for yourself the amount of the deductions you wish to be made.

The requirements for refunding the locked-in account of a member age 65 and over were added to the standard contract for simplified pension plans. You can save a copy of the standard contract with the information entered on it on your computer.

On 1 January 2012, the contribution rate increased to 10,05%. If you are a salaried worker, you pay half and your employer pays the other half. To learn more about the impact of this increase,  consult the section on the changes to the Québec Pension Plan.
