The death of a child
The death of a child affects child assistance payments and (if applicable) the supplement for handicapped children.
The Registrar of Civil Status informs us automatically of the death of a child.
Child assistance payments end in the quarter following the child's death, that is, in January, April, July or October. If monthly payments were being made, they will continue until the end of the quarter in which the death occurred. The Régie does not pay any child assistance for a child who dies in the month of his or her birth.
You must inform the
Régie des rentes du Québec
and the Canada Revenue Agency of your child's death.
