Death of the father or the mother
The death of a parent of a child under age 18 can affect child assistance payments.
If the parent contributed sufficiently to the Québec Pension Plan, the orphan's pension can be paid to the person who cares for the deceased's children (if any). The Plan also provides other benefits in the event of death.
Benefits may also be payable if the deceased parent was a member of a supplemental pension plan, had a locked-in retirement account (LIRA) or a life income fund (LIF).
