Death of a parent
If the parent contributed sufficiently to the Québec Pension Plan, certain survivors' benefits can be paid to his or her family members: the death benefit, the surviving spouse's pension and the orphan's pension.
The death of a parent of a child under age 18 can also affect child assistance payments.
Benefits may also be payable if the deceased parent was a member of a supplemental pension plan, had a locked-in retirement account (LIRA) or a life income fund (LIF).
