Disability and your private pension plan, locked-in retirement account or life income

Supplemental pension plans

  • If you have received a refund or have made a transfer to a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP), a locked-in retirement account (LIRA) or a life income fund (LIF), your work will not have any effect on those transactions.
  • If you are receiving a disability pension under your plan, it is possible that payment of your pension may end if you are no longer deemed to be disabled under the plan.
  • If payment of your disability pension ends, you will still receive a retirement pension under your plan when you retire. The amount of your retirement pension could be adjusted to take into account the amounts received when you were disabled.

LIRA

  • If you have received a refund of your locked-in retirement account (LIRA), your work will not have any effect on that transaction.

LIF

  • If you are under age 54, your earnings will change the temporary income that you can draw from your life income fund (LIF). However, your life income will not be affected.
  • Starting at age 54, your earnings will not affect the amounts that you can draw from your LIF.
