Toward a Stronger and Fairer Québec Pension Plan

Québec is changing; the labour market is changing; family realities are changing. Today's Québec workers and those of tomorrow must be able to count on a solid plan, based on intergenerational fairness.

The population was invited to comment on the solutions proposed to adapt the Québec Pension Plan to today's realities.

Why act now?

The last two actuarial reports of the Québec Pension Plan show that the Plan is under great pressure. Two main factors are at the origin of this situation:

• a higher-than-expected increase in life expectancy
• salaries that are not increasing as quickly as expected.

Public hearings

Public hearings began on 27 August 2009 and ended on 30 September 2009. Some 40 organizations, groups and individuals submitted briefs and presented them to the parliamentary committee.
