Expectations for notices concerning the retirement pension supplement: A survey
Since 2008, the Act respecting the Québec Pension Plan has provided for the payment of a supplement to beneficiaries of a retirement pension who continue to work. When these beneficiaries contribute to the Plan on earnings exceeding the basic exemption of 3 500 $, they receive the retirement pension supplement.
This increase is automatically added to their monthly retirement pension payments. However, the Régie sends a letter to anyone entitled to a supplement of more than 1 $ to inform them of the fact. What do the affected clients think of the notices regarding this new measure? That's what the Régie wanted to find out when 1 000 people receiving a monthly supplement of 10 $ or less were surveyed.
And just who are these people?
By establishing the profile of respondents, it was possible to determine that most of the beneficiaries receiving a retirement pension supplement are men (62,4%). Eight out of ten are under 70 and less than half (41%) have a higher education.
How well is the retirement pension supplement known?
At the time of our survey, nearly 65% of the beneficiaries receiving the supplement were aware that their retirement pension would be increased if they worked. Of this number, more of the younger and well-educated people knew of its existence.
And the results are...
Good! According to our survey, 90% of the people who read our explanations concerning the retirement pension supplement are satisfied. Some of the positive points that came up: ease of comprehension, level of detail and usefulness of the information. In fact, most respondents felt it was necessary for the Régie to send personalized letters informing them of the amount of the supplement to which they are entitled.
