When should you apply for your retirement pension?

At age 65, you can receive 100% of your retirement pension. If you apply for your pension after age 65, you will receive a higher pension for life. Your pension amount will reach its maximum when you turn 72. Therefore, it stops increasing after that age, even if you apply for your pension after that age. If you apply for it between ages 60 and 65, you will receive a lower pension for life. The earlier you apply for your pension, the lower your amount will be.

To determine the right time to retire, you can use CompuPension. With this tool, you can estimate the amounts to which you are entitled and compare several scenarios. This will help you make a better-informed decision.

You can apply for your pension up to 12 months before the time you wish to receive your first payment. You cannot receive your retirement pension before age 60.

If you are receiving a disability pension, you do not need to apply for a retirement pension because you will automatically receive it as of age 60. For more information, consult If you are already receiving a disability pension and you are under age 60 page.
