Statement of Participation Under the Québec Pension Plan
The Statement provides a complete picture of your participation under the Québec Pension Plan (QPP) at a specific moment in your life.
Throughout your career, you contribute a portion of your salary to the
QPP. From these contributions, your Statement provides an estimate of the amounts to which you could be entitled in retirement or should you become disabled. It also shows an estimate of the financial assistance your family may receive when you die.
Understanding your Statement
Select a format for the Statement and see the explanations below.
Here are the main sections contained in your Statement:
A – Estimate of your retirement pension
It is an estimate of the retirement pension amount you could receive based on the age at which you apply for it. The Statement shows two scenarios:
-
Current amount: estimated amount per month of the pension you could receive if you
stopped contributing to the
QPP today. This would be the case if you were no longer working or if your employment earnings did not exceed $3500 per year.
-
Projected amount: estimated amount per month of the pension you could receive if you
continued contributing to the
QPP from employment earnings
similar to those you are currently earning.
If you continue to work, the amounts will increase each year.
B – Pensionable earnings
They are the employment earnings from which you made contributions to the
QPP and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).
Take the time to verify whether all the employment earnings on which you contributed are correctly recorded on your Statement. Your employment earnings for certain years may not yet be entered. The earnings that are indicated may also not be the same as the earnings you declared.
Here are some situations where your earnings may be missing, incorrect or different from the earnings you declared:
- Your
earnings are from one of the last three years. Revenu Québec must send us all the information regarding your employment earnings within a certain time limit. The same time limit applies to the CPP (if you worked in another Canadian province).
- Your
earnings for a given year are less than $3500. Your earnings did not reach the minimum required to allow you to contribute to the
QPP or the CPP. Therefore, your Statement shows that your earnings are $0 for that year, even if you worked.
- Your
earnings exceed the
maximum pensionable earnings for that year. That maximum is therefore entered on your Statement.
- The
earnings entered on your Statement take into account the partition of employment earnings carried out between you and your former spouse.
In these situations, you do not need to request a correction to your employment earnings. In addition, you do not need to request a correction for the year following your 72nd birthday. You stopped contributing to the
QPP on 31 December of that year.
If you notice an error in your earnings for
other years or if earnings are missing, you must use the
Request for Corrections to Pensionable Employment Earnings service.
C – Estimate of the benefits in the event of disability or death
It is the estimated monthly amount of the disability pension you could receive
should you become disabled, as well as the amount of the pension for a disabled contributor's child.
You can also find the estimated monthly amount of the surviving spouse's pension and the other benefits to which your family may be entitled
when you die.
