The death of a child

  • The death of a child affects the Family Allowance and (if applicable) the supplement for handicapped children.
  • You must inform us as soon as possible of your child's date of death. Call us so that we can update your file and and make the necessary changes.
  • We will continue paying your Family Allowance during the quarter in which the death occurred, regardless of the frequency of the payments. No claim will be made if an overpayment is made after that quarter.
  • We do not pay any Family Allowance for a child who dies in the month of his or her birth. You must still inform us of the death.
  • If you have other children for whom you receive the Family Allowance payment, the death of your child will change the amount you receive.
