University-sector pension plan

The Act respecting the restructuring of university-sector defined benefit pension plans This link will open in a new window. (CQLR, chapter R-26.2.1) took effect on 8 June 2016. The Act provides for the restructuration of certain of those plans by 31 December 2017 at the latest in order to ensure better risk management and help redress their financial situation to ensure their sustainability.

Correspondence to the Minister

The Act respecting the restructuring of university-sector defined benefit pension plans and amending various legislative provisions provides for various notices and information to be sent to the Minister responsible for the application of the Labour Code, most often by the employer or the parties to the plan. All correspondence concerning the Act must be sent to the Minister at the following address:

Negociation period, notice of agreement, conciliation and arbitration

The Act respecting the restructuring of university-sector defined benefit pension plans and amending various legislative provisions sets a restructuring process that provides for a negociation period ending on 31 March 2017. At all times where parties agree, they must send the Minister responsible for the application of the Labour Code a notice of agreement. Furthermore, the parties may retain the services of a conciliator. If the parties disagree, they must go through arbitration.
