The same amount for all children

The supplement for handicapped children is the same for everyone, regardless of family income or type of handicap. It is currently $200 a month for all children who meet the our eligibility criteria. That amount is not taxable and is indexed in January of each year.

To whom is the supplement paid?

The supplement for handicapped children is paid to the person who receives the Family Allowance payments.

If you have shared custody of your child

Each parent will receive half of the supplement for handicapped children.

Payment conditions

The supplement for handicapped children is paid with the Family Allowance payments 4 times a year, in January, April, July and October. Payments are made in advance on the 1st working day of each quarter.

If you would like to receive payments every month, you must apply. In that case, payments will be made on the 1st working day of each month.

When does payment of the supplement for handicapped children end?

Payment stops when one of the following situations occurs:

  • your child no longer meets the eligibility requirements because his or her condition has improved
  • the beneficiary is no longer eligible for the Family Allowance
