When presenting the 2024–2025 budget, the Gouvernement du Québec announced changes to the eligibility requirements for the financial assistance programs for handicapped children. The same amount for all children

The supplement for handicapped children is the same for everyone, regardless of family income or type of handicap. It is currently $229 a month for all children who meet the our eligibility criteria. That amount is not taxable and is indexed in January of each year.

To whom is the supplement paid?

The supplement for handicapped children is paid to the person who receives the Family Allowance payments.

If you have shared custody of your child

Each parent will receive half of the supplement for handicapped children.

Payment conditions

The Supplement for Handicapped Children is paid with the Family Allowance payments 4 times a year, in January, April, July and October, on the scheduled payment dates.

To receive monthly payments, you must complete a Change in Frequency of Family Allowance Payments form.

When does payment of the Supplement for Handicapped Children end?

Payment stops when one of the following situations occurs:

  • your child no longer meets the eligibility requirements because his or her condition has improved
  • the beneficiary is no longer eligible for Family Allowance
