The first steps to be taken by the liquidator of a succession
If the deceased was age 18 or over and had worked, be sure that an
application for survivors' benefits
under the Québec Pension Plan has been filed with the
Régie des rentes du Québec
.
If the deceased was a member of a
supplemental pension plan
, you must notify the plan administrator of the death and find out what benefits are payable. If you have a designation of a beneficiary, send it to the administrator without delay.
You will find the name and address of the plan administrator in our online service for
consultation of supervised pension plans
.
If the deceased had a locked-in
retirement account (LIRA) or a life income fund (LIF)
, contact the financial institution that administered the account or fund.
If the deceased left any children, you will find more details on the
Régie
's programs in the section, "
Children
".
