Child assistance payments will now be named Family Allowance. The Gouvernement du Québec made the announcement on 3 December 2018 while presenting its Update on Québec's Economic and Financial Situation. We are currently updating all of our publications to reflect this change. During the transition period, the former name of the program may still appear in some of our correspondence.
If you have any dependent children under age 18, you may be entitled to child assistance, that is, the Family Allowance payment and, if applicable, the
supplement for handicapped children and
supplement for handicapped children with exceptional care needs. For children aged 4 to 16, you may also be entitled to the
supplement for the purchase of school supplies.
If you or your spouse were to die, your children could be eligible for an
orphan's pension. If you or your spouse become disabled, your children could be eligible for a
pension for a disabled person's child.
