Child placed by a youth centre

The placement of your child may have an effect on the Family Allowance that you receive.

Important

As of October 2021, certain eligibility requirements for Family Allowance will change following the new measure announced by the Gouvernement du Québec, which abolishes the financial contribution to placement when a child is placed by a youth centre.

What you need to know:

  • If you have a child placed until he or she turns 18 under an order

You will no longer be entitled to Family Allowance or its supplements for that child as of October 2021.

  • If you have a child placed under youth protection, who was not ordered by the court to be placed until he or she turns 18 and you are receiving Family Allowance

You will continue to receive Family Allowance and its supplements, if applicable. No changes will be made to your file and no action is required on your part.

  • If you have a child placed under youth protection, who was not ordered by the court to be placed until he or she turns 18 and you are not receiving Family Allowance

You could be entitled to Family Allowance and its supplements, if applicable, as of October 2021. At this time, no action is required on your part. We are currently studying your file and will contact you in the coming weeks.

Current terms

  • If your child has been placed by a youth centre, you can receive the Family Allowance payment and the Supplement for Handicapped Children if the financial contribution required by the centre is paid. The youth centre will notify us.
  • However, if changes occur in your family situation during the placement, you must notify us.
